Daniel Sutton, Centre Manager, was at the Centre until midnight on Thursday 23 Dec 2010.
He spoke to 3AW shortly past 9am on the 24th. He described the atmosphere
as 'electric'. He claims there have been 150,000 visitors up till midnight
since 8am Thursday 23 Dec, and the Centre is still on target to have another
100,000 visitors before close of business today (Christmas Eve) as more people are expected
to make their final last minute Christmas purchases.
Mr Sutton recommended Chadstone gift cards to those who can't work out the
perfect gift to give.
A number of people have complained that many Christmas items were no longer
available by the time they got to the 24-hour sales.
There were concerns of many stores packing away Christmas items and already starting
to get ready for boxing day sales, however Centre Management say it is up to the
retailers on how they conduct their sales during this period.
According to Mr Sutton, the Centre was averaging 90,000 shoppers per day
in the preceding week to Christmas.
Update 12pm 24 Dec 2010
So far 175,000 shoppers have visited Chadstone as at midday on Christmas Eve.
1 million shoppers will be expected to have passed through the doors of Chadstone
in the final week leading up to Chadstone.
