Secluded area target for vandals, business as usual after eerie silence

The new concrete walls seclude residents by reducing traffic noise, however by its very nature, also
provides vandals with an ideal environment in which to paint graffiti. Both sides of Middle Rd
have been affected, with graffiti markings along most of the concrete walls. This potentially could
become an eyesore for residents as well as the risk of harbouring undesireable people, and unless
the Stonnington council and/or Chadstone shopping centre take preventative measures, the problem
will escalate. The area is well lit during the night, so other deterrents must be implemented.
The shopping centre and surrounding carparks had an eerie silence on Christmas day as expected,
and nearby residents could relax without the usual traffic noise. However, it was business as usual
post Chirstmas day, especially on Boxing day. Not so for the construction workers, who were nowhere to be seen. They may be taking another few days off during the end-of-year holiday period.
