For many stores, up to 30 percent of sales revenue for the entire year are made duing the Christmas period. This makes Boxing day one of the most critical days for any retail business within major shopping centre.

Retailers are hoping the Boxing day sales will be a hit, making up for the past few months of lacklustre spending due to the recession.

During Christmas eve, shoppers in Australia spent $8.5 billion in gifts. On the other hand, an estimated $250M worth of unwanted goods will be returned for refunds.
